Make matching tongue-and-groove joints
Create a straight groove and its matching tongue with the PROMASTERTOOL™ Tongue & Groove Assembles Cover Router Bit Set. The two dedicated cutters let you machine each side of the joint separately, helping align adjoining wooden pieces during assembly.
Use the set for edge-joined panels, boards and suitable cabinet components. Both bits have a 1-1/2″ cutting diameter and a 1/2″ shank. The 1-1/2″ measurement describes the cutter diameter—not the required thickness of your wood.
One cutter for each part of the joint
- Groove cutter: the central cutting section creates a nominal 7/16″ (11.11 mm) wide slot.
- Tongue cutter: the upper and lower cutting sections remove material above and below, leaving a matching nominal 7/16″ (11.11 mm) tongue.
The tongue enters the groove to help register the adjoining faces. Cutter height and fence position determine the profile’s position in the workpiece, so test both mating pieces before routing your finished parts.

Carbide cutting edges for woodworking
The cutters combine carbide cutting edges with steel bodies and 1/2″ shanks. Suitable for hardwood and softwood joinery, they produce the straight-sided profiles shown in the product photos. Cut quality depends on the wood, grain direction, cutting allowance and router setup.
These are fixed-profile cutters with no guide bearing. Use an appropriate fence or guiding setup and a router that accepts a 1/2″ shank.

Set up for an aligned joint
- Prepare straight, consistent stock and mark a reference face.
- Set the groove cutter height and fence on scrap of the same thickness.
- Change to the tongue cutter and adjust its height to match the groove, keeping the reference faces consistent.
- Dry-fit the test pieces and check face alignment before machining the finished parts.
Follow your router’s installation, speed and feed instructions, and support the workpiece throughout the cut.
What’s included
2 router bits: one groove cutter and one matching tongue cutter, both with 1/2″ shanks. Wooden samples illustrate the joint profiles and are not included.
