Wooden drawers showing half-blind dovetail corner joinery

Classic joinery for drawers, boxes and furniture

PROMASTERTOOL™ Dovetail Router Bits cut the angled profile used in dovetail joinery and sliding dovetail grooves. Their tapered cutting edges form the distinctive undercut shape that allows matching wooden parts to interlock.

Choose from five cutting diameters to suit the scale of your project. Each bit has a 1/2″ shank; the complete set includes one of each size.

Choose the bit for your jig and joint

Dovetail joinery relies on a matched setup. Check your jig’s required bit angle, cutting diameter, working depth and guide-bush size before selecting a cutter. A matching shank size alone does not establish jig compatibility.

With the appropriate jig and setup, dovetail cutters are used for half-blind joints, dovetail tails and sliding dovetails. Through-dovetail systems commonly also require a matching straight bit to cut the pins. The project photos illustrate finished joinery, which depends on the complete tooling and setup.

Shank diameter: 1/2″ (12.7 mm) on all five bits. Dimensions follow the individual size diagrams; metric values are rounded conversions. Cutting length is a tool dimension, not a universal stock-thickness recommendation.

Plan the fit before routing your project

  • Prepare square, consistent stock and secure it in the appropriate jig or fixture.
  • Use the bit and guide combination specified for your jig.
  • Set the working depth carefully and test both mating parts on scrap of the same thickness.
  • Check the joint fit and make small setup adjustments before cutting the finished pieces.

Use with a suitable router and 1/2″ collet, following the router and jig instructions. These bits have no guide bearing, so routing requires an appropriate jig, fence or other guiding arrangement.
