A level starting point for your next woodworking project
The PROMASTERTOOL™ CNC Spoilboard Insert Carbide 4 Wing is a wide surfacing cutter for flattening wood slabs and resurfacing CNC spoilboards. Its 2-1/2″ cutting diameter and four replaceable carbide inserts make it a practical choice for preparing broad, flat surfaces with a compatible CNC machine or a securely supported router-sled setup.
For slab flattening and spoilboard resurfacing
Use controlled, overlapping passes to remove high spots from a slab or refresh the working surface of a spoilboard. A rigid, level setup helps the cutter produce a consistent surface across the work area. Finish quality also depends on machine alignment, material, feed rate and depth of cut; sanding may still be needed before finishing.

Replace the cutting edges, keep the cutter body
Four screw-mounted carbide inserts provide serviceable cutting edges. When an edge becomes dull, a compatible square insert can be indexed to an unused edge. Replace the insert once its usable edges are worn or if it is damaged, rather than replacing the whole cutter body.
Use replacement inserts that match the 12 × 12 × 2.2 mm specification as well as the original seat, hole and cutting geometry. Matching the outside dimensions alone does not establish compatibility.

Choose a compatible setup
Use equipment approved for a 63.5 mm surfacing cutter and fitted with the correct 1/2″ collet. A 12 mm collet is not interchangeable with a 1/2″ collet. Check cutter clearance, machine capacity and the permitted operating speed before use.
Suitable materials include hardwood, softwood, plywood, MDF, LDF and other wood-fibre boards. Test the setup on scrap material before working on the finished piece. For plastics, confirm the material-specific cutting requirements first.

Set up for controlled passes
- Secure the workpiece and check the machine or sled for level, rigid support.
- Begin with a light cut and adjust feed, overlap and depth to suit the material and equipment.
- Use effective chip and dust extraction, eye protection and hearing protection.
- Disconnect power before changing the cutter or indexing inserts. Clean the insert seats and follow the applicable tightening instructions.
Keep hands clear of the cutting area, retain the equipment’s guards, and do not operate with damaged inserts or loose screws. This large surfacing cutter is intended for a controlled CNC or supported sled setup, not unsupported freehand routing.
